Here's Why

To showcase her fabulous sewing talent and raise money for a nice sewing machine or even (fingers crossed) help her with college.

It all started with uniforms at school. Unable to show off what she made to her friends at school, I wanted to have an event where she could have her girlfriends see what she had put together. It seemed only logical that her family should be invited since they are her biggest fans. And then I thought wouldn’t it be great if I could invite my friends because I have been talking about her for the last three years since we started sewing together. I was pretty sure my backyard wouldn’t hold that many people.

Becka works at the Textile Center and they have a yearly fashion show so I asked her how I would go about making this a much bigger show. The rent at the Textile Center was reasonable, so I booked it and started asking friends if they could help me pull the show together. It’s amazing how many wonderful people I know. They have offered to volunteer, to give items for a silent auction and donate to the cause. If you are one of these fabulous people, please contact us.

Technically, I’m her teacher. But she has taught me so much about teaching another person to sew that I like to think of it more as a partnership. Her ability always surprises me. I just sit next to her and remind her of how capable she is.

I love that she surprises other people as well. She looks older than she is, so her attendance at the U of M design camp didn’t seem that odd. Until the teachers told the class that she was 13 and therefore the youngest kid in the class. The next youngest was 16. She made a ball gown.

You will all realize how awesome she is on August 23rd. There are only 200 tickets available, so you probably want to request those tickets now.
