Aubrey Diaper Bag
I haven't made a diaper bag for ages. About six months ago Aubrey asked me to make her a diaper bag according to her specifications which were:
1. Must not have a flap over it
2. Must be a purse when diaper bag usage is at an end
3. Must be big enough to hold all her baby stuff
4. Must also offer pockets that make her keys, phone and wallet easy to access
5. Must not have messenger bag straps but be long enough to be carried under her arm.
6. Must not be too girly so her husband will carry it.
I did love the challenge, but man I put it off until the last minute. Like Aubrey's last week at work was last week and when I initially was close to finishing it I realized it was huge, so stopped sewing immediately and took it in on her last day to make sure I didn't need to make it much smaller. The consensus at the office with all the ladies who have babies: it could have been bigger, but it was a good size. Huh. I guess making a bag large enough to fit two Lily's will fit everything a baby needs. Instead of adding all the pockets, I added some smaller bags - both to make more space when the bag is an honest to goodness bag and the other when you only want some diapers, wipes and a change of clothes - then you're set. I forgot to take pictures of those before I handed them over to Aubrey, but I think I'm going to make some more diaper/wipe holder things. Those things are groovy.
I did have a great time and am now all burnt out on purses for a little while. The other funny thing is that I am nearly through the seemingly endless supply of magnetic snaps I bought during the purse sewing frenzy I had 6 years ago. It's like a rite of passage - I just don't know how yet.
Also, this will quite likely fit a laptop, so I'm going to make her a padded sleeve for that in exchange for seeing her cute kids and letting the older two run around with the doggy until they all fall over in exhausted joy. The end.
