Spicy Hands
While canning on Saturday I put Sarah and Tenessa in charge of cutting the jalapeno's. I said that my hands had started burning after all the jalepeno's were cut the week prior and they should be careful. They said they were fine...at first. I can't remember if they had finished cutting the jalapeno's or not, but Tenessa suddenly said "Spicy Hands!" and went to rinse her hands in cool water. The rest of the day was spent running their hands under cool water or soaking their hands in ice water. It was pretty miserable. Last night at kickball someone was telling me about a cure. Darned if I can remember the first step, but the second was wash your hands in vegetable oil, then a dairy product, then repeat the whole process over again. But what was the first step? Crap. I wonder if you could still do the last two steps without the first one and still have it work. Or, I will start using gloves that I bought on Sunday specificially for jalapeno cutting. That may work better.

i think lemon juice will take care of it. next time, try rubbing lemon juice on your hands.
even lemon scented dish washing liquid works pretty well. Essentially, the burning is from the oils in the pepper. Quite the irritant there. So you need something that breaks down the oils. I have found that the lemon scented dishwashing soap tends to work better. The other thing that works really well is a mixture of the soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide.
That little recipe is also pretty good for deskunkifying dogs.
rub sugar on your hands
