The Maas Family Reunion
This is the second time I've attended the Maas family reunion. Here my grandma and mom are laughing over something - I bet they're talking about me behind my back. Wait, I don't have eyes in the back of my head so if I took this picture they are probably talking about me to my face. Or they're talking about something else. Whatever.
There are more photos, but I've exceeded my uploading limit with flickr for the month (curses!), so it will have to wait until July 1.
I had very good intentions of washing windows at Grandma's house over the weekend, but the weather was either crazy hot, raining, we were at the family reunion or I was napping so I did not get it done. Next time for sure. I do need to coordinate a few family members for assistance with the windows I'll need a ladder to get to anyway, so that was a convenient excuse.
My grandmother is aging. I know it happens to other grandmothers, but I had hoped mine was exempt. Her memory is not very good anymore and just looking in her refrigerator really brought that home. While I know she loves ice cream, she rarely had more than 2 different flavors in her freezer. Now she has 5 and I didn't even look downstairs. She has at least 3 loaves of bread in the refrigerator and is starting to eat sweets almost entirely. When my grandfather died, she tried not to eat too many sweets to watch her weight, but that seems to have fallen to the wayside. The biggest benefit Lily got from her forgetfulness was being fed a couple extra times unless we caught her in time. Obviously the dog didn't want to come back with us.
The part that concerns me the most though is that she gets confused about where we say we're going and when we say we'll be there so she gets really concerned about where we are and if something has happened to us. Thankfully she has my aunt Margie to set her straight, but we also need to get better about leaving notes to reassure her that we aren't dead.
The main issue in the next few months is convincing grandma to move in with my mother when she relocates to Shawano. My grandmother can be pretty stubborn when she wants to be and her fear is making her say things that make my mom more nervous than she already is. So my next step is to start a letter writing campaign to grandma to talk her into the idea and tell her to lay off the negative comments (but in a far nicer way of course). Maybe I can convince other family members not living in Wisconsin to do the same. Hey Damon....
