I Hope I Get Coal for My Birthday
Because I seem to go through it like crazy now that it's grilling season. Of course I am in love with the hardwood coal you have to go to Whole Foods to purchase, but it seems to last a little longer than the regular coal and I feel better about burning it. Although, I have to remember to put the old coal at the top of the chimney starter and not on the bottom because then it burns away too fast and that chicken you thought would take 10 minutes really takes about 1/2 hour. Sort of a drawback when you had to let it marinate for two hours and the first time you tried to start the grill the fire went out and you didn't notice it until 20 minutes later. But the chicken with black bean and corn salsa was totally worth it. Once it was done, it was so good! I just didn't get a chance to eat it until 8:45pm.
I don't know. Maybe I should purchase a supplementary gas grill for laziness sake. Except I am afraid of gas grills and the thought of eating chicken every night doesn't actually sound that good. Chicken is the only meat I grill (except for turkey burgers I guess on a very rare occasion. Otherwise I would maybe grill a portobello mushroom or spicy black bean burger. My summer diet is usually tostadoes or BLT's because I LOVE garden tomatoes and want to include them in everything I'm eating. I end up eating so many garden tomatoes that I get sores on the sides of my mouth. That's how much I love them. I am always very sad with the advent of fall and loss of garden tomatoes. They should be showing up at the farmers market soon. I can't wait.
