Is It Normal to Want to Reach Through the Phone and Grab Someone by the Neck?

My printer has been broken since February. I've been determined to fix it myself and actually made the attempt Sunday morning. When I realized that I didn't have a syringe to put the windex to clear out the clog I thought to myself - "Screw this I'm going to take it in and get it cleaned. What's $50?" So I called and left a message with the recommended epson service center. He called me back today and basically told me to throw the printer that just turned two away because it would cost $400-$500 to fix. Ummm...excuse me? One, the guy seemed like a know it all and I find that really annoying. Two, it didn't look that hard to unclog a printer with the instructions online. I just didn't have a syringe. He said I could buy a new printer of the same quality or better for $100. That's awesome. I would love to throw a printer in a landfill once a year because they break that quickly. I'm going to call one other repair place and if they tell me the same thing I'm going to try again myself. At least if I wreck it then the fix it guy was technically right. I did just throw it away. But I would like so badly for him not to be right. Does anyone have any tips for unclogging an inkjet printer?
